Playing with Powertex

Good morning all   I have a new found love using Powertex a non toxic waterproof medium that will stick to anything apart from plastic.  Last year I had collected acorns, oak leaves, bark and pine cones and they have been in a bag  since nice then. I have also had my iwertex over a year, so decided it was time to play with an Autumn canvas. I had a canvas board ( which has warped a bit so a stretched canvas would be better)

Materials used
Pine cones, acorns, bark, leaves (all well dried)
Canvas
Ivory and terracotta Powertex
Modelling paste
Acrylic paints
Powertex varnish and pigments
Various fabric mediums
Gilding wax
Donna Ratcliff floral stencil
Small and medium balls

The first stage was to stencil with the modelling paste, left to dry and painted
with ivory Powertex and left to dry.

I did a rough layout of where I wanted to place my embellishments and
took a photograph Which I took no notice of when I came to
sticking everything down!

The next stage was to dip the fabric and textures into the terracotta Powertex and make sure it was coated but not sodden. I laid it on my canvas with the bark and all the embellishments making sure there was plenty of Powertex to stick everything where I wanted. It takes a good while to dry so I could move things around make sure they were firmly where I wanted them. I painted the whole canvas with the powertex and also sprayed around it with black bister spray to add a shadow and added some small and medium balls and left to dry for a couple of days

Once dry I used acrylic paints and varnish with pigment to dry brush and highlight and used gilding wax to edge and give more definition and this is the finished result

So pleased with the finished result
Thank-you for reading and see you for the next adventure

 Adventures of the Quirky Shepherd

Good Morning all and welcome to my new blog.  I will endeavour to post regularly and hopefully add some tutorials along the way

I like to think my projects are a little on the quirky side especially when it comes to working with wire.

These are a few of my makes for the Perthshire Open Studios, they are a new direction for me and I am loving the effects I can get with different wires and how shapes evolve during the making

All these are made with Stainless steel wire and my absolute favourite is Philomeena who is a quirky bird made from wire and added leather for her body and her head.  she has great movement and is set into an oak block.
